Dear colleagues,

We welcome the summer season with our June’s issue!

Many interesting events, internal activations and initiatives have particularly stood out among others during May.

Focusing on our products, which ensure our company’s growth in the most successful way, we celebrated, externally and internally, the 3 years of SCRATCH in the Greek market with the € 500millions of winnings. More activations and a TV campaign for the Summer Special Draw of Popular Lottery follows. At the same time, another promotional program aiming to familiarise customers and agencies with horse betting is in progress in selected OPAP stores, from May to June. 

Also, we introduced the OPAPLeague, our network performance management framework, in order to support and reward our partners for the best possible results. The new PLAY Network keeps growing dynamically and rapidly, making us all proud of this achievement.

Once again, we celebrated the delivery of two more, completely renovated floors to the“Aghia Sofia” and “P.A. Kyriakou” Children Hospitals, giving us the opportunity to share this pride by writing our wishes for the hospitalized children on balloons, offering to them smiles and joy.   

We also proudly showed our support to the the Hellenic Wheelchair Basketball Federation (HWBF) via our sponsorship cooperation, bringing Wheelchair Basketball closer to the public, during the half-times of 2 Greek Championship playoff games and offering to thousands of fans a first-hand experience with this dynamic sport.

In our interview section of this month, we are hosting Nikos Apostolopoulos, the Customer Experience Team Director, who provides us with insight regarding the action planning for further enhancing customer experience.

People are at the heart of our operation and, as such, we always find ways to improve your experience at OPAP. Our Employee Assistance Programs continue dynamically with new seminars ahead! We managed to obtain privileged electricity tariffs for our employees, through our cooperation with HERON. Our outdoor court opened with the launch of our first internal basketball tournament combined with an internal live betting experience. Core Values Engagement team - Happy Friday was successfully launched, where we had the opportunity to watch and support Olympiacos in his crucial effort to get qualified for the Euroleague Final game in Istanbul.

Message from our CEO

Dear OPAP Team,

2017 has been a successful year so far for OPAP with many great achievements, and the month of May included many more examples of our successes. These covered all aspects of our 8 Strategic Priorities, from the launch of ‘OPAPLeague’, our new performance management framework in the Retail network, to the inauguration of the new floors at Aghia Sofia Hospital & P.A. Kyriakou, and the full network launch and advertising of our exciting new product ‘Virtual Football’.

As we approach the summer, and the hottest time of the year, some of our most important projects are reaching some critical milestones. I therefore encourage you all to stay focused over the next couple of months to ensure that we put in a strong team performance, before we all have the chance to enjoy a well-deserved rest on one of Greece’s many lovely beaches in the summer.

SCRATCH with Olympiacos BC in Istanbul!

During a special festive event held at the SEF stadium, SCRATCH, the Grand sponsor of Olympiacos BC, wished "Good luck" to the Team before leaving for the Final Four in Istanbul.

The OPAP Management team congratulated the coach of the Team, Yannis Sferopoulos, the captain of Olympiacos, Vassilis Spanoulis and the General Manager of Olympiacos, Christos Stavropoulos for the qualification of the team for the 6th time over the last nine years in the 2017 Euroleague Final Four and expressed also their warmest wishes for the win.

OPAP takes part in Run Greece series, as the Grand Sponsor of SEGAS

The fourth run of the year in the Run Greece series took place on Sunday, May 21st, 2017 in Ioannina, the city from which Run Greece started back in the spring of 2013.

Run races in the Run Greece series break a record year on year as thousands of runners of all ages swarm the cities that the runs are held - so far, Larissa, Heraklion, Kastoria and Ioannina. For the first time, OPAP has a presence in the series of runs, since we consider that activating our brand during them is an ideal "bridge" for the Authentic Marathon that takes place every November in Athens.

The running courses of 5 and 10 kilometers are designed to pass through every city's characteristic landmarks (such as the Venetian Walls in Heraklion or adjacent to the lake of Kastoria and Ioannina) on trails of unparalleled beauty. Runners after the end of the run have the opportunity to visit OPAP’s kiosk and take a 3D photo as a unique souvenir of the race and find out firsthand that entertainment is an integral part of OPAP's DNA.

In this year's Run Greece, street runs will be held in seven cities in Greece. As it has been established, Run Greece together with the Athens Half-Marathon, pave the way every year for the great celebration of sport, the Athens Authentic Marathon, in which OPAP is the Grand Sponsor.

OPAP stands by the side of the Hellenic Wheelchair Basketball Federation

Our Company proudly supports the Hellenic Wheelchair Basketball Federation (HWBF), having as a primary goal to bring Wheelchair Basketball closer to the public, to encourage even more young people with disabilities to take action and take up this sport. We, therefore, organized exhibition games during the half-times of 2 Greek Championship playoff games between top clubs, also sponsored by our Company - AEK BC and Panathinaikos BC. The 10,000 fans, who were present in the arenas during both games had the opportunity to experience first-hand this dynamic sport. The audience gave a warm applause to the athletes for the magnificent spectacle that they offered and for their excellent technical brilliance.

The Sponsorships, Internal Communications, and BTL teams joined forces to carry out this action, and the result, as you can see by clicking here, was indeed impressive.

Greek Cup Final

Our Sponsorships team managed to obtain 45 free invitations for the Greek Cup final, held on May 6th, in Volos for 23 of our colleagues and to buy another 47 tickets on their behalf. We served a total of 43 colleagues, who had expressed the wish to attend the Cup final, with the percentage of fulfilled requests reaching 100%. It is worth mentioning that most of our colleagues were PAOK fans from Northern Greece, who wore their team's older kits for the match that featured our Company's logo.

Scent of Northern Greece

On May 9th, our colleagues had the chance to attend the cup award ceremony of Volley League PAME STOIXIMA Championship to PAOK, the so-called “double-headed eagle of the North”, at PAOK Sports Arena.

With the long-awaited trophy in their hands, a delegation of PAOK, Volley League's Champion, consisting of athletes Smaragdis, Gomez and Shafranovich, MVP of Volley League PAME STOIXIMA 2016-2017 Championship, and the Τeam Μanager, Achilleas Tzikas, visited our Company's offices in Thessaloniki on May 11th. Our colleagues had the chance to congratulate the team for its great success and to take pictures with the Champions and the cup.

2017 Final Four in Istanbul

As part of our sponsorship rights, we are able to get hold of tickets, which are otherwise difficult to find. For the Final Four, held in Istanbul a few days ago, we were able to get tickets on behalf of 3 of our colleagues, who expressed such interest.
Also, our colleague, Chrysavgi Kafki, the winner of the draw for a complete 2-person package had the opportunity to watch Olympiacos and all the Final Four games in Istanbul along with another one of our colleagues, making our company representation twice as strong!

Happy Fridays are here; a chance to get to know each other & have fun together!

The first “Happy Friday” was a very successful event! The objective of “Happy Fridays”, a Fun initiative from the Core Values Engagement team, aims to get us to know each other better and build stronger work relationships, thus bringing our company values to life at the workplace.

Right after our company basketball Final Four, dozens of colleagues had fun watching the -exciting to the last minute - Final Four semifinal game of Scratch Olympiacos with CSKA Moscow, with lots of pizza, refreshments, as well as “Nissos” beers from our partner company, on Friday, May 19th;

The specially arranged area at our restaurant, ‘GReat stories’ was full of people that created a special atmosphere, within which we had the chance to have fun together and come closer as colleagues.

We all know that recycling is good for the sustainability and protection of the environment.
With simple, everyday gestures that we can integrate especially within our workingplace, we help saving precious resources and prevent further environmental pollution.
So take the first steps in our workplace and adopt daily practices to reduce the use of plastic. 
Replace plastic bags at the restaurant with personal hard bags, reducing in this way the consumption of food packaging.
Think twice before you use a different plastic cup several times a day. Make sure that when you use any plastic material, you dispose it in the special recycling bins for plastic waste in all floors and all kitchens.
Always remember that Recycling is not an idea but an attitude, a way of life and respect of the planet we live!

Our significant contribution to the Children Hospitals continues, offering smiles to the children

On Monday, May 15th, our company celebrated one really special day, as we have delivered two more, completely renovated floors to the Children Hospitals, “Aghia Sofia” and “P.A. Kyriakou”. The President of Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos honored the ceremony with his presence and the sanctification was realized by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Mr. Ieronymos B’.



Until today, our company has renovated approximately 35% of both Children Hospitals, creating a true legacy for the young generation, for which we are all really proud.

On the occasion of the inauguration, we had the opportunity to share this pride by writing our wishes on balloons for the hospitalized children. We would like to thank all of you for your warm participation, as more than 400 balloons were gathered and offered by our colleagues to the children and their parents bringing smiles, hope and optimism!

Success lessons to the 20 SMEs that participate in our “Business Growth” program

Each one of the 20 participating SMEs in our “Business Growth by OPAP” program has already connected with an appropriate mentor that offers integrated support and guidance. Moreover, the first educational workshops on issues of funding and strategy from specialized consultants and market professionals have already taken place. The mentors, supporting the program, are successful C-Level members of the market and entrepreneurs that have confronted similar challenges in the past and have managed to overcome them successfully, further developing their companies and creating added value for the Greek economy and community.

Additionally, we have implemented an interactive workshop, aiming to help six family companies that participate in the program, to find the “recipe” of success. The entrepreneurs witnessed up close one Greek success story, from Nikos Christodoulou, who transformed his family business, CHB Group, into one of the largest worldwide companies in the sector of food processing.

Q:  Tell us a few things about yourself!
A: I consider myself a very lucky man. I have a great family with two children, the seven-year-old Filippos and the 3-year-old Danae, I am healthy (touch wood), I’ve got good friends, I like my job a lot, I have a great time in the office, and I think I have succeeded in the so-called work-life balance. Throughout my professional career I have been always in positions relating with customers, my studies have been in the field of business administration, my favourite team is Olympiacos and my favourite city is Athens - with all its positive and negative aspects.

Q: Which is your previous professional experience?
A: Before joining OPAP, I had 16 years’ working experience in Vodafone Greece, in positions of responsibility in the divisions of Corporate Sales and Customer Service.
I started working at OPAP in September 2014. From the very beginning, we set as main priority the creation of efficient service structures focusing on our customers and our partners. We had the full support of the company, we exploited the power and attractiveness of our brand to attract top executives in the customer service field, we put into force cutting-edge technologies, we followed a stable plan and built the OPAP Contact Center.

Q: Tell us something about you that few people know.
A: What “few people know about me”, I will keep it a secret. One part of my character, which may be interesting for my colleagues, is the fact that at work I cannot stand still. I am attracted to challenges and risk and I am glad to be part of teams that create new things from scratch or change the already established.

Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: I like playing and watching basketball. In the past I tried tennis as well but it didn’t suit me. I am a fan of long distance traveling, cinema and long vacation.

Q: What do you think it is a real challenge for you about the role you have in OPAP?
A:  
Customer Experience is a new team with many and great challenges ahead. Our areas of responsibility and attention touch almost all of the company's activities. Knowing our customers’ needs and designing strategies to help improve the experience we offer them, are of particular importance for all companies. What we aim to achieve as soon as possible, is to clearly pay attention to the "voice of the customer" in the organization, learn more about them, map our relationship and interaction, highlight their needs and desires, and help the teams design solutions that will satisfy them. The team's significant challenges consist of improving the customer experience through the touch points (OPAP stores, GHs, Digital channels, Contact Center, etc.) and strengthening the customer-centric culture of our people internally.

Customer Experience Team - Priorities  
Q: What is the strategic and functional action plan to improve our customer experience?
A: Customer Experience as a functional structure and at the same time as a process in order to deliver results should be high on the strategic priorities of the company. The bibliography has many examples of companies that have failed because at the crucial moment they did not know what their clients really wanted or did not pay the necessary attention to the market signals. OPAP, as we know very well, has set the Customer Obsession as the first strategic priority for the implementation of 2020 Vision. The operational action plan for the improvement of our customer experience is defined as “Consistently put the customer at the center of everything we do” and is analysed in the following pillars: a) understanding needs, b) strengthening customer-oriented culture internally, and c) constant improvement.

Therefore, the strategic priorities and the operational framework have been clearly and emphatically stated. What is expected of the team is the proper design of the specific actions that will bring the expected results.

Q: How do you plan to capture and further analyse the feedback you receive from your customers?
A: 
We are in the process of designing a series of actions that will enhance the “voice of the customer”, will help to further analyse the data and will give us the possibility to propose specific actions for improvement. Our focus is on the following areas:
1. Surveys (Customer / Agents satisfaction etc.);
2. Customer segmentation & profiling;
3. Customer journeys mapping per game & touch point;
4. Partners’ engagement in Customer Experience;
5. Customer Day (coordinating actions that will bring OPAP people closer to our customers and partners);
6. Create a Master Customer Experience Dashboard (gathering information, trends, goals and results from all sources in a single report)

Q: Who are the people in the Customer Experience Team?
A: The Customer Experience Team consists of the Contact Center with its specific teams (Personalized Support for Partners, Customers Help Line, External Call Center) and the Voice of the Customer. Responsible persons for the teams are:

Thodoris Velanas - Contact Center
Thodoris, has recently undertaken the overall responsibility of the OPAP Contact Center. He has been already 2 years at the company as he joined in April ’15. He has worked for 16 years in the field of telecommunications in multinational companies in Greece and abroad, taking up a wide range of operational and managerial roles in the customer service sector. He also holds an MBA from the Athens University of Economics and Business.

Afroditi Pina - Personalized Support for Partners
Afroditi, is responsible for the team that provides personalized service to our partners. She has been working at OPAP over the last 2.5 years, since October 2014. Her studies in marketing and advertising gave her the opportunity to build a 13-year career in a multinational company in the field of telecommunications. She has worked in the areas of customer service, training and customer experience. Afroditi, specializes in improving procedures and managing projects related to the customer experience improvement.

Marios Fostiropoulos - Customers Help Line
Marios is responsible for the customer service. He has been working with us for 2.5 years, since October 2014. He holds a Master of Arts degree with specialisation in Communications Policy & Regulations, from Westminster University (UK). He has worked for 11 years in the field of telecommunications, holding significant operational and managerial positions in customer service, specialized in technical support and the use of innovative technologies for the improvement of customer experience.

George Kalogridis - External Call Center
George is responsible for our cooperation with the external call center, as well as for the smooth operation of the systems we use. He joined OPAP in March 2015 and the Contact Center team in April 2016. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Systems from Sussex University and a Tech mini-BA from the Athens Information Technology Institute. George has worked for 8 years in a big Greek telecommunications company and gained significant experience in customer service and project management.

Giannis Orfanidis - Voice of the Customer
Giannis has recently joined OPAP family and is in charge of the Voice of the Customer team. With his significant professional experience, he will help us in achieving our strategic goal with regards to Customer Obsession. He studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Patras, and received an MSc in Telecommunications from the University of Kent and an MBA from the ALBA Business School. In the past, he has undertaken various roles in telecommunication companies in Greece and recently in Asia, always related to Customer Experience. Beyond the passion for the Customer, he has a passion for photography, as well.

Employee Assistance Program  

Following the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) introduction and the great success of our first interactive workshop "Coping with Stress", this month we continue dynamically by adding two more workshops about Interpersonal Relations and Empowerment of New Mothers. Participants had the opportunity to learn new ways and tools to effectively manage negative emotions and for new mothers to get familiar with the challenges related to their new role. Our first Internal Basketball Tournament & live betting experience  

Promoting our dynamic and fun nature, two of our 4 core values, on Friday 5th May, we celebrated the opening of our new open sports court, in the most entertaining way by organizing our first Internal Basketball Tournament. 16 teams had the chance to compete in order to qualify for the semi-finals and claim the first place. The Final Four was held on Friday, May 19th, in a festive atmosphere in presence of all of us by the side of the teams that competed, we created the warmest support pitch! At the same time, a 3-point contest was held for those who wanted to test their shooting accuracy! The action was transferred outside the court as well, as for the first time we could experience the pregame betting online and live from the betting corners in the court, with more than 130 bets.

A day in the life of Travel Team – Let’s meet Katerina and Niki  

Q: What is your typical day as a Travel Coordinator?
Katerina: A typical day starts with plenty or bookings for sure! Our first contact is with our new Travel Agency, GS TRAVEL and afterwards with hotels allover Greece. This month, Travel Module was enabled, which means that Travel Bookings will be managed through Galaxy ERP. So, as you can see, a great part of our day is dedicated to travel requisition data entries. For the time being, we also organize Travel Packages for OPAP employees in preferential prices in cooperation with our Travel Agency.
Niki: My day at the office is always productive, because it starts with the handling of requests, concerning Business Travels all over Greece and goes on with checking invoices and expenses cards.

Q: What is your favourite thing about working here?
Katerina:
Communication with people all over Greece on a daily basis, I think is the greatest challenge our team faces.  Also the fact that we cooperate with the majority of the company’s employees and we keep meeting new colleagues all the time from different units and teams keeps our interest elevated!
Niki: I love a lot of things about my work. But the most important of all is that I cooperate with a great number of my colleagues and that I am handling their travel arrangement.

Q: When you are not here, you enjoy spending time in…
Katerina:
My most usual habit is to be at a tennis court, trekking at Ymittos mountain or just walking in the city center.
Niki: For the past months, I enjoy very much to put on my sneakers and just walk.

Q: What’s the most interesting or challenging task you have worked on since you joined OPAP?
Katerina:
The most interesting and challenging task we have worked on, concerns our cooperation with Sales Team. Specifically, the Sales Roadshow in the summer of  2015, where we proceeded with the bookings of air tickets,  hotels &  conference halls all over Greece for our sales representatives. the Apollo Project where,  we made similar bookings, as well.
Niki: The most interesting and challenging task for me so far was providing support for Apollo Project.

Q: Interesting fact about yourself:
Katerina:
Τhe most fascinating part of my life is my involvement with tennis since the age of 9. I competed as a child in tournaments with plenty of distinctions and, currently, I pass on my knowledge, experience and love of tennis to children.
Niki: My favorite hobby is TRX. I practice on a daily basis because it helps me relax and decompress.

News from Jokers, our Basketball team
  
Playoffs’ curtain fell, as our team did not manage to overcome the obstacle of ELITE LEAGUE’s defending champions in the knockout stage of the championship! In a breath-taking, “best out of three” series, JOKERS lost 0-2, facing exclusion from the final stage, with the winner of both games, being decided in the very last seconds. In this season’s sum-up report, our presence in the “big” league can be considered a success, as we have achieved important victories, playing great basketball, getting a “rookiemarkable” placement in the standings table. Most of all, we managed to maintain our team spirit and bonding, despite the racing difficulties of the rookie year in the most demanding amateur basketball league in Greece. Of course, JOKERs basketball obligations never stop! We participate in 2017 SUMMER LEAGUE, where we have already scored 3 wins in the first 3 games!

Christos Sotirakopoulos shares his experience of commentating on PAME STOIXIMA Virtual Sports matches

Pame Stixima Virtual Sports has become part of our everyday lives and is now available throughout our agencies’ network. With events every five minutes, daily from 9:02 until 23:57, our new game has already captured a large audience, as it is a simple, fast and exciting form of betting.



"Virtual Sports puts you in the field," says Christos Sotirakopoulos, who is the "voice" of the game. The top sportscaster entered the studio to describe yet another great sporting event, the PAME STOIXIMA Virtual Sports and shared his experience: "It has everything that a viewer can live on a regular football field, very nice highlights, great anticipation, ups and downs".

PLAY GAMES - Increase of the max win limit per bet from 1000€ to 5000€

From the first week of June, all PLAY Games will be offered at an increased maximum win per bet, which can now reach up to 5.000€. The transition to the 5K max win will be gradually completed for all games.

The regulation of the PLAY Games had set the max win limits to 5K in the first place, still the games were initially launched at 1.000€ max win and the coming update promises to offer an improved experience.

Permanent Hour Extension of KINO Draws as of May 15th

KINO, the No1 OPAP game, operating since 2004, has extra draws everyday as of May 15th. Thus, the KINO draws begin at 9:00 and run till 23:55 on a daily basis (instead of 22:00 up until recently).

So, in total, KINO draws reach the 180 daily (instead of 157 currently) and KINO players have the opportunity to enjoy their favorite game even more with more possibilities and opportunities for wins.

Horse Races

As of May 5th and during the whole summer period, the races will start at 16:30 in order to have a better conduct of the races and to facilitate: horses, jockeys and players.

From May 2nd and for a whole month, a promotional program will be implemented in selected OPAP stores in Attica and the rest of Greece for betting on Horse Races. For this reason, dedicated promo teams visit the agencies to inform new customers on Horse Races and help them place their first bet, while also answering their questions regarding betting. These programs aim to enhance brand awareness, familiarize customers (who haven’t tried it before) with horse betting in order to include it in their betting routine.

With OPAPLeague our expectations are translated into tangible goals for each partner through an unbiased process, based on both the objective criteria for each store and the dynamics of each local market.

With OPAPleague, our partners will be able to get aligned and:

In this championship, our partners are not alone, as our sales representatives, Contact Center and OPAP trainers are always standing by them in order to offer the necessary guidance and support, which will help them achieve all of their goals!

Central Agreement of OPAP with Interamerican

Another important central agreement has been achieved by OPAP with Interamerican, ensuring premium rates of insurance coverage for our network! The new agreement, effective from April 3rd, 2017, offers significant benefits and full insurance coverage for the store, the equipment, the cash and its transfer.

What’s more, OPAP offers, for the first time, free coverage of all insurance fees for the first two months to each partner, thus actively supporting its entire network.

After the first 2 months, our partners, who choose to continue this agreement, benefit greatly with the following monthly insurance costs:
• 5,00€ for the small (<70 m2) and 6.50€ for large stores (>70 m2)
• 6,00€ for the small (<70 m2) with the vlts/ssbts and 7.50€ for large stores (>70 m2) with the vlts/ssbts

Already a large number of partners has accepted our new agreement and benefits from the unique terms that we have ensured for them. We stand by our partners and we actively take care of their safety!

We build a unified experience throughout our PLAY Network!

PLAY Stores commenced their journey on 11/1 with our new retail network dynamically and rapidly expanding throughout Greece. As a result, one of our main goals now is to ensure a unified experience throughout our network, which consistently offers an exciting entertainment environment for our players!

For this purpose, we initiated a complete Merchandising program, coordinating:
• the perfect preparation of each new store and its equipment with all the necessary operational and promotional materials;
• the handover of each new store to its Owners, after controlling and agreeing on all operating specifications;
• the reception of new partners with a premium Welcome Kit;
• regular visits to our stores to ensure proper operation;
• the preparation and support of planned promotional activities.

Our Merchandising program ensures our network’s proper operation in full compliance with our regulatory framework, while supporting our new partners and providing uniformity for our stores!

We hit “PLAY” at opapnet|play!

The opapnet family has grown and on April 27th it welcomed our PLAY Stores network through our brand new portal, opapnet|play!

With the dynamic expansion of PLAY Stores, our new network now has its own voice and a set of user-friendly online tools to support its specific needs. Our new portal, opapnet|play, has arrived with the aim to become the main communication channel between PLAY stores and OPAP and to contribute to the creation of a unified culture in our newly established network, through which we will all consistently offer a unique entertainment experience for our players!

Our partners welcomed our new portal with great enthusiasm, with all of our stores having already been activated! Additionally, our new audience shows great interest in opapnet|play’s content, exploring per visit and investing at least 9' of navigation on average 9 pages.
